Eraly: Timeline, Points and Getting Close
Eraly scores how close your year is to the real date. It publishes the bands on screen: exact 100, close 85, near 60, rough 30, else 10.

A year instead of a word
You are given a historical moment and a 25-second clock, and you type a year. There is no right answer in the usual sense — there is only how close you got, and the closer you are the further your time traveller moves along the timeline.
A rough guess still pays
This is the part that makes Eraly the most approachable game on this site. Getting the exact year is worth 100 points, a close one 85, a near one 60, a rough one 30, and anything else 10. Even a completely wrong answer earns something, so a run is never wasted.
The decade trick
If you cannot pin the year down, pin the decade down. A rough guess inside the right decade still scores 30, while a confident but wrong century scores the flat 10. Narrow your answer rather than gambling on it.
Seven moments, and they get harder
A run is seven moments, all scored on accuracy. They are not a puzzle with one solution, so there is no clever trick that beats knowing the history — but there is a real difference between a person who knows roughly when something happened and one who does not.
Read the five bands
The start screen labels exact 100, close 85, near 60, rough 30 and else 10. Those labels show why a partly informed estimate is useful even when you cannot recall the exact year.
Make a bounded estimate
First place the event in a century, then narrow it to a period or decade if you can. Submit one year before the 25-second timer ends. The game scores distance from the target year, so a reasoned estimate beats a random precise-looking number.
